Varicose Veins and Venous Disease

Dr Werner-Gibbings has a special interest venous disease, undertaking a fellowship at St Thomas’ Hospital in London with world leading venous surgeons Mr Stephen Black and Mr Prakash Saha. In this role he gained extensive experience in the treatment of May-Thurner syndrome and thrombotic occlusions of the deep venous system. These conditions can impart a high burden of morbidity on sufferers and have been historically treated with conservative measures. Dr Werner-Gibbings utilises innovative, best-practice stenting techniques to treat these conditions and alleviate symptoms.

Dr Werner-Gibbings also has extensive experience in both open and minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins for cosmetic and symptomatic relief.

Complex Aortic Endografting

Aortic aneurysms historically required treatment with open surgery, an invasive procedure requiring a large incision and long period of convalescence. In the 1990’s minimally invasive ‘endovascular’ surgery was introduced, significantly reducing the impact and recovery times of the surgery. This endovascular surgery was initially limited by the anatomy of the patient’s aorta and constraints of the engineering of devices.

More recently, developments in this field have opened up minimally invasive intervention to many more aneurysm patients. Dr Werner-Gibbings has a large body of experience in this type of complex repair, having worked closely with internationally renowned aortic surgeons Professor Bijan Modarai and Mr Said Abisi to gain experience in the planning and treatment phases of complex aortic endografting.
